DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS: islandspacefl.org/cakefest24\n  \nTo kick off the holidays “tastefully\,” Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is collaborating with Caribbean Professionals Network and a number of South Florida bakers to present the third annual Rum Cake and Caribbean Black Cake Fest. On Sunday\, October 20th\, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.\, cake makers will offer tastes of traditional rum cake recipes as well as the dark fruit cake or plum pudding recipes popular in the English-speaking Caribbean islands\, and affectionately known as “black cake” to many Caribbean nationals.’ \n.       \nAt this first museum fundraiser for the giving season\, attendees will be asked to donate $15 per person and will have the opportunity to sample a variety of cakes\, as well as light holiday beverages\, while Caribbean holiday music plays in the background. Guests are welcome to decide which tropical flavors they’ll select for their Thanksgiving and Christmas tables\, and to explore the museum to learn about Caribbean history\, culture and art. Bakers in attendance will represent the regions of Antigua & Barbuda\, Bahamas\, Barbados\, Belize\, Cuba\, Curacao\, Dominican Republic\, Guyana\, Grenada\, Haiti\, Jamaica\, Puerto Rico\, Trinidad & Tobago\, Virgin Islands\, St. Kitts & Nevis\, St. Lucia\, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. \n\nSupport\nThis event is presented in partnership with Broward Mall and made possible in part by the support of the State of Florida\, Department of State\, Division of Arts and Culture\, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture\, the Institute of Museum and Library Services\, the Broward County Cultural Division\, “King” George Jograj\, Dr. Lydia Malcom of Authentic Behavioral Health LLC\, and her husband\, Mr. Waynewright Malcolm\, and the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Judith Cornfeld Fund for the Arts\, Helen and Frank Stoykov Charitable Endowment Fund\, The Frederick A. DESCRIPTION:The Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is excited to present “Reimagining Emancipation” a look into the journey to and through Emancipation.\nAnnually on August 1\, the “British” West Indies celebrates the moment in 1834 when they were granted emancipation from slavery. This year\, as we examine the history and our current realities\, the museum has developed programming to educate and engage the public on this pivotal moment in Caribbean history. As such\, our aim is to tell the collective story of the region while educating and inspiring the Caribbean people\, the diaspora and those who have a love for the region and its people. \nThis exhibit will be on display from July 16th to September 11th\, 2022. \nOpening Hours: Thursday through Saturday from 11:00am to 7:00pm\, Sunday from 11:00am to 6:00pm.\nCost: $10 Adults / $5 Children (Included with General Museum Entry)
