SUMMARY:Celebrating Emancipation Sip 'N' Paste
DESCRIPTION:Reserve your free spot on Eventbrite . \nThere are many ways which we can reimagine our ideas of emancipation. On our journey to complete emancipation we want to celebrate how far we have come. “Celebrating Emancipation” A Sip N Paste is an event dedicated to Bahamian Junkanoo one such celebration that can be found throughout the region. There are many Carnivals and festivals in the Caribbean that stem from our colourful histories. On Friday\, July 29th from 7 to 9pm at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum\, participants will learn more about Junkanoo\, how to create a costume piece\, and will even walk away with their own custom decorated Junkanoo headpiece. This event is for the artist in all of us. \nSip N Paste is an art class designed to teach each participant the art of traditional costume making that typically takes place in preparation for The Bahamian Junkanoo Festival. The instructor will share historical information on Bahamian Junkanoo which is a traditional festival that takes place in The Bahamas and walk us through the art of “pasting” or decorating a Junkanoo costume. This hands on workshop will be lively and engaging where each participant will leave with their own custom made Junkanoo costume piece. \nWhile Junaknoo is a traditional Bahamian festival celebrating freedom and African roots\, there are other countries in the Caribbean with their own versions of a Jankunu/ Junkanoo/Jonkunnu celebration. \nReserve your free spot on Eventbrite .
