A Roaring Night at The Museum

A Roaring Night at The Museum

On Saturday, August 9th at 5:30 PM, Her Green Furnace will be taking over Island SPACE Caribbean Museum for an unforgettable evening featuring their powerful short film documentary, along with food, drinks, music, and local vendors. Everything will be available for purchase—except entry, which is free with a special passcode. (Don’t know it? Here’s a hint: burned DVDs.)
The film delves into the significance of Black hairstyles and accessories, exploring how they shape self-image, confidence, and identity of Black women and girls as they navigate the world.
Through this documentary, Beads, Braids & Barrettes challenges the beauty standards associated with hair and reflects on the complex relationship between self-esteem and cultural identity.
Additionally, this event offers a fantastic opportunity to support and connect with local small businesses. Guests can enjoy a range of vendors selling sweet treats, savory food, merchandise, and specialty drinks. For those feeling bold, music will fill the air—encouraging everyone to sing, dance, and let loose.
“I hope attendees leave not only entertained but also educated and inspired to reflect on their sense of self and the influences shaping their personhood,” said Bianca Green, director of Beads, Braids & Barrettes.
It promises to be a night to remember, so grab your best dressy-casual outfit, and get ready to enjoy a night of fun, film, and community!
