Caribbean Folklore and Family Friendly Spooks at Free “Mall-O-Ween” Event
Families across South Florida are invited to enjoy an evening of slightly spooky Caribbean cultural activities on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Following participation in Broward Mall’s “Mall-O-Ween” festivities from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Island SPACE Caribbean Museum will present Caribbean-themed storytelling, games and programming at its facility from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
At the start of the day’s events, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, families are invited to explore the museum’s pop-up station inside the mall near the northeast (fountain) entrance, featuring kid-friendly activities. On the museum’s patio, the young and young at heart are also welcome to try their hand at traditional Caribbean pastimes like ludo, dominoes and cards throughout the day.
Then from 4:00 to 6:00 pm inside Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, children can participate in storytelling, singing, dancing and more. The evening’s folklore features spooky characters from Caribbean mythology such as duppies, the Soucoyant and the Bacoo.
During the evening’s festivities, chalk artist Kristie Stephenson, founder of Story and Myth jewelry company, will present her recently completed 8×8-ft chalk drawing as a gift to the museum. The artwork was inspired by the concept of Jamaica’s rolling calf character.
In celebration of Halloween, Broward Mall presents its annual Mall-O-Ween, a family-friendly day of indoor trick-or-treating. Activities include pumpkin crafts, a costume contest, music and shows.
