Celebrating Museum Volunteers – Island SPACE Volunteer Appreciation Event
Island SPACE Caribbean Museum honored the dedicated team of volunteers that make our programming possible at our volunteer appreciation on Saturday, April 6th. This event served as a token of gratitude for the invaluable contributions made by volunteers who tirelessly support our mission.
Our volunteer family were treated to a special meal of Indo-Caribbean stewed chicken, curried chicken, pholourie, doubles, and a variety of desserts, within the museum’s art gallery, making for a beautiful backdrop. They chatted and mingled with each other, museum staff, and board members while enjoying their luncheon.
Much Appreciation
After the meal, President of the Board Calibe Thompson took to the mic to personally thank each and every volunteer for contributing their time towards Island SPACE. Island SPACE is what it is, “With the help of the most amazing volunteers in the world that I have been privileged to lead.”
Led by co-founder David Muir and former board member Camille Edwards, the volunteers also thanked Ms. Thompson, recent recipient of US Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick’s EmpowHER Award for the category of “Women in Arts and Culture,” for her dedication to the mission and being a stellar influence and role model for South Florida’s creative community.
Each volunteer was invited to share their list of favorite programs from Island SPACE, as well as ideas for what they would like to see the museum accomplish in the future. The result was four pages of stellar ideas that we hope to incorporate in the coming months and years, with the help of our volunteers, of course!
A Pivotal Role
Volunteers play a pivotal role at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum. They provide assistance across various functions, from guiding visitors through tours, to assisting with field trips and events, to simply covering the front desk to interact with guests. Without their commitment and passion, we would not be able to engage our visitors the way we do. We are able to enrich our local community thanks to our volunteer family, and we can never thank them enough.
Before leaving, each volunteer was presented with a gift bag filled with goodies that served as additional tokens of gratitude from Island SPACE. The evening ended with full bellies and excitement for upcoming events at the museum.
