Celebrating the Life of Radcliffe “Dougie” Bryan at Island SPACE

Over 60 attendees gathered at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum on the evening of Friday, November 21, 2025, to honor the life and legacy of acclaimed Jamaican guitarist Radcliffe “Dougie” Bryan, who performed and recorded with reggae legends like Toots & The Maytals, Black Uhuru, and Bunny Wailer. Hosted by Dougie’s daughters, Claudia Bryan-Campbell and Sherrie-Gay Brotemarkle, the celebration brought together family, friends, and admirers to reflect on his remarkable life and the impact he had on his community.

A Night of Remembrance, Music, and Community

Earlier in the year, Dougie was formally recognized at Island SPACE when he received seven Grammy certificates, a powerful acknowledgment of his immense contributions to music. These awards underscored his work on Grammy-winning and nominated albums, and set the tone for a celebration of his life that was both personal and profound.

The evening opened with a heartfelt video narrated by Sherrie-Gay Brotemarkle, sharing the story of Dougie’s life, achievements, and the love he inspired. Guests were deeply moved by the reflections and memories captured on screen.

Several musical performances followed, celebrating Dougie’s life through song. Attendees joined in the spirit of remembrance, with music creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere that highlighted the joy and creativity he brought to those around him.

Guests were also treated to a selection of delicious dishes provided by Sarita Martine Bistro, complementing the evening with flavors that honored Caribbean culinary traditions. The combination of music, food, and shared memories fostered a sense of unity and connection among all in attendance.

By night’s end, the celebration left attendees with a profound appreciation for Dougie Bryan’s life, his legacy, and the love of his family and community. This gathering at Island SPACE underscored the museum’s role as a cultural and community hub, where stories, memories, and joyous moments are shared and cherished.

Dougie passed away on October 16, 2025, at the age of 78. He was a resident of Lauderhill, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Paula, daughters Claudia, Sherrie-Gay and son-in-law Keith. His family legacy extends to his grandchildren Jordayne, Morghann, Austen-Tyler and Justyn. He also leaves behind his sister Natalie and stepfather Leslie among other family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
