Broward Educators visit Island SPACE Caribbean Museum for a special, private tour.

On Wednesday, July 19th , Educators from across Broward county were invited to Island SPACE Caribbean Museum for a private preview of the museum’s up and coming schools tours. Island SPACE aims to offer an educational and arctic experience based on the culture and heritage of the Caribbean.

Broward educators were able to experience the offering for themselves. First, a tour of the museum archives was given by Island SPACE co-founder, Calibe Thompson. While the tour itself may hold mature themes, Island SPACe is able to adjust the tour based on the tour’s age group and select themes.

After the tour, educators were sat down to do one of several different artistic offerings at Island SPACE. On this day, they were tasked with painting a mask based on a fact on their chosen Caribbean nation. After a moment of perhaps too-intense painting, the teachers then volunteered to “show and tell” their mask and why they chose their design.

Afterwards educators were able to discuss ways of adjusting the tours for their own class, as Island SPACE offers flexibility in it’s programming. With that, the days activities came to a close as educators across Broward came to a better understanding of some of the activities that Island SPACE has to offer.
