In an everlasting partnership with Jamaican Women of Florida, Island SPACE was proud to present its second annual HERS showcase, a special event Honoring Exceptionally Regal Women.

On Sunday, June 16th, at 12pm, Island SPACE’s Verandah was filled to the brim with local vendors ready to share their health tips and experiences with the community.

As a way to pay homage to a commonly underserved community, Jamaican Women of Florida and Island SPACE Caribbean museum partnered together to put on an afternoon of live performances, ethnic fashions, and lessons in self-care, all in celebration of women.

Women of every background across South Florida were welcome to showcase their business, their wares, and their expertise. Not only that, HERS featured live spoken word performances, in addition to live discussions on beauty tips. Vendors ranged from home enhancement, to health tips and more. In addition, interact one-on-one with experts in makeup, ethnic hair care, plant-based health practices, green home décor and more.

Vendors included loca businesss such as Juice Plus, Mrs. Freshcut, Makeup by Rory Lee, and fashion expert Miss Pinup Miami. After being checked in, guests were able to peruse the vendors and get some one-on one tips, free samples, expert advice and general positive energy.

The setting then changed in preparation for the upcoming performances, with guests seating themselves around the museums makeshift stage. Local performance artist, business woman, and all around creative Frankie “Red Wordz” Rosso acted as MC, introducing Elaina the Poet and Mori Taiye, two phenomenal spoken word artists. After each of their performances, Frankie gave her own poetry performance.

After the live performances came the fashion show. Featuring size-inclusive designs by Kulture Klothes as well as award winning sandals and fashion accessories by Reve Jewelry. Models of all shapes and sizes walk down the cat walk and the audiences cheered them on. The clothes and jewelry received a lovely reception. With that, the fashion show came to a close. Guests were able to resume their mingling and finish experiencing each vendor for the rest of the event.

HERS is one of several ways Island SPACE celebrates women in all spaces. “Women lead this organization,” said Island SPACE co-founder and board president Calibe Thompson. “We lead households, we lead companies, more and more we lead nations, and we are still expected to nurture everyone else around us. Sometimes, we need to take a moment for ourselves. That’s what HERS is all about.”

HERS is also another way Island SPACE stays engage with the community. Janice McIntosh, president of the Jamaican Women of Florida, said, “This is a great opportunity to partner with Island SPACE on a relevant and uplifting topic. Our members love the new museum location. We are all about celebrating women, and many of us are excited to be included in the fashion show!” Island SPACE looks forward to future partnerships with JWOF and with other Caribbean organizations across Florida.
